Six Sentence Sunday, 26 February 2012 (The Reincarnations of Miss Anne)

The harbor at Utopia is shaped like a crescent.  Twin arms of white-and-gold headland wrap tenderly around the bay like the horns of the moon, like a mother holding a beloved child.  Favilla Vogel looks out over the water, as she rises from her bed under the great window.  The weather in Utopia is delicious for sleeping, nights cool enough to make the weight of a sheet and perhaps a blanket quite pleasant, and the warmth of a lover’s skin not unendurable.

Favilla loves the morning more than any other time.  it’s the sweet interval between dream and life.

  2. Great mood setting and worldbuilding!

The world-building here is not my own, but borrowed of Sir Thomas More’s Utopia for the geography and Charles Fourier (as we’ll see in later posts) for the work-day. My own version of Utopia is created by freely choosing the most appealing aspects of the classical Utopias, as well as some ideas tested in practice.

Anybody’s skin (including one’s own) is unendurable in a Texas heat wave, or the American Great Lakes area in high-summer humidity. Utopia, on the other hand, is neither of these. 🙂

I love your description here. The little details make it. Like the fact that you take time to tell us that the sleeping weather is perfect in Utopia – and what exactly that means.
