“Babushka tells me lots of stories. How the forest witches came to Petersburg after the deforestation.”
“Why not go further east?”
“That was already taken.”
I thought of the fox I’d seen that morning, trotting through the imitation English cloister of the University Baptist Church. It made sense that wild creatures—and maybe magical ones too—had been driven into the cities by the loss of habitat.
The first speaker is Max, who was mentioned in last week’s Six Sentence Sunday excerpt.
How true about wild creatures. Great snippet, and I’ve got that Kate Bush in my head now, lol!
I love the idea that not only wildlife has to move when humans take their natural homes.
Very realistic – intriguing
I love the idea of the forest witches, very interesting set up.
Intriguing story. Imitation English cloister-interesting
Interesting excerpt. I really like it.
Interesting idea! Can’t wait for more!
I really like the imitation English cloister image. Having just been to England and seeing some cloisters, it’s really concrete and powerful
We see wild creatures in cities all the time now, so why not magical ones? Like the imitation English cloister, too.
Fabulous scene setting! Great six 🙂
Yes this does make sense. There are black bears walking around the playground where I live. Excellent snippet.
Intriguing. Love the idea of tales in modern times, and how you bring the animals’ difficulties with urban development into play here.
Great snippet and I love the premise of magical creatures being driven into cities by loss of habitat.
Very intriguing – and I agree with Pippa.
Makes you wonder what might be living in your neighborhood. 🙂
Foxes are always a great addition to a story!
