“What’s the scariest thing in the universe?” Raina asked. She was coming off shift, uncoupling the links that joined her volitional system to the systems of the ship.
“The Void,” Sophia answered, silvery voice with subsonics that rang in Raina’s bones. “Are you going to tell a story about the Void?” Sophia was the ghost in the machine, or its soul.
“There are worse things than Void,” Raina said. She paced the circle of light within which she would sit to tell the story.
This year for NaNoWriMo I took on two projects: the novel Ship’s Heart (space opera) and the novella Self Insert (contemporary fantasy). This is the new opening for the novella.
